#60- Sustainable surgery, fantastic farming and celebrating pride

A world-first for sustainable healthcare

In recent weeks, the world's first ‘net-zero’ operation was performed in Solihull, West Midlands. During the procedure surgeons were able to cut emissions by 80%, they also wore reusable scrubs and adapted the administration of the anaesthesia, alongside planting 3 trees on the hospital grounds- overall leading to a net-zero operation!

Things are looking up for vertical farming

The world's largest vertical farm is being built in the UK, to help reduce the reliance and need for imported food. The JFC farm will have 13,500 square meters of growing space and will be powered using 100% green energy. Vertical farms use up to 95% less water than regular farming, and eliminate the need for fertiliser or any harmful chemicals. Resulting in more sustainable produce for the UK that hasn’t travelled hundreds of miles to reach us.

As a continuation of our inclusivity series, this week we want you to show your support for the LGBTQ+. With over 180 Pride events taking place up and down the country this year, take some time to join in with your local Pride parade and stand in solidarity.

Whilst Pride is a celebration of love, it is also a fight for rights, for respect and for equality - so if you’re well versed in the LGBTQ+ community, use your knowledge and resources to educate those around you. If you know a little less, spend some time researching about the community and how you could support it.

Everyone has the right to love freely and safely 💚
Be unapologetically you!*
